Questions:
2a. What is fodcast?
2b. How can Fodcasting be useful for learning languages?

Answers:
TITLE
2.a. Podcast is an effective tool for honing pronunciation skill. It enables us to learn listening and pronunciation through audio or even video files. Podcast is easy-to-create audio files that can be uploaded to the Internet and to which users can subscribe. Podcasting in recent years, Internet audio has greatly increased in popularity (McCarty, 2005). One recent example of Internet audio, a podcast, is an audio file that anyone can create using a computer, microphone, and a software program. Once posted to the web, podcasts can be accessed, downloaded and played to a computer or MP3 player. The popularity of podcasts can be linked to their simplicity in creating, editing, publishing and listening to them. Due to the increased popularity of podcasts and ownership of MP3 devices, the use of podcasting has begun to find its way into educational settings. It is also known as a series of digital media files (either audio or video) that could be downloaded.

2. b. Podcasting enables students or even the teachers to learn the language especially in pronunciation or listening skills. Podcasting can empower students by giving them opportunities to create and publish for a real audience (Stanley, 2006) and facilitate recording and distributing news broadcasts, developing brochures, creating or listening to teachers’ notes, recording lectures distributed directly to students’ MP3 players, recording meeting and conference notes, supporting student projects and interviews, and providing oral history archiving and on-demand distribution (Meng, 2005). More specific to language learning, podcasting has several theoretical underpinnings in second language acquisition (SLA) research. Swain and Lapkin (1995) recognize output as essential for second language learning. One strategy they suggest is having students listen to themselves as they edit their output, and then go back, listen again, and revise as necessary. They can also receive feedback from other students and their instructor. This type of approach could be quite useful in podcasting as it is easy to record, re-record and listen to various segments of a podcast. After students record podcasts, they can listen multiple times, edit their podcasts and comment on their classmates’ recordings (see also Lord, 2008; Meng, 2005). Although we know that the use of audio in education is far from a novelty, podcasting and MP3 devices have brought a new found excitement to the classroom. Osaka Jogakuin College in Japan was the first school to provide iPods to incoming students. Podcasts downloaded to the iPods consisted of audio learning aids to help with the learning of English (McCarty, 2005). Podcasting trends can now be found Lara Ducate and Lara Lomicka Podcasting: An Effective Tool? Language Learning & Technology 69 .In different parts of the world—many universities and colleges3 are embarking on projects using MP3 devices and podcasting in innovative ways. So, it could help students or even the teachers in learning the language especially in pronunciation and listening skills. Students could learn language by this media easily. It may help them learn the language independently.

Ok, i think that's all from me. I need a constructive comment from Mr. Uray Salam and friends in this virtual class.

Wassalamu'alaikum wr. wb.

How to learn SPEAKING and pronunciation

Back again..........!!!!!!

Next week will be held the final exam. So, i have to prepare well in order to get the better result. But before that, i would like to give some useful information about how to learn speaking and pronunciation. I am absolutely sure that these information will help us to learn speaking and pronunciation of English well...^^

Let's learn them by the following ideas below:
1. Talk to yourself
Talk about anything and everything. Do it in the privacy of your own home. If you can't do this at first, try reading out loud until you feel comfortable hearing your own voice in English.

2.
Record your own voice
This might feel very uncomfortable, but it will help you find your weak pronunciation points. Listen to yourself a few days later. Which sounds do you have difficulty hearing?

3. Participate in class

4.  Learn common idioms

5. Understand the sounds that your language doesn't have

6. Recognize that teachers are trained to understand you
When you get out into the real world, average people will have a more difficult time understanding you unless you practice speaking slowly and with proper pronunciation.

7. Practice minimal pairs

8.Study word and sentence stress

9. Practice tongue twisters

Well, those are the ways how to learn speaking and pronunciation of English. Let's practice guys... Speaking and Pronunciation are two important things in English. We should learn them well.

I think only that which i can share today. Hopefully, it will help us in learning English.

How to Learn English!

Sunday, May 30, 2010

Back again !!!!
Well, today i would like to continue my writing in the blog.....

I want to share about how we learn English easily... Let's check it out...^^
1. Speak without fear
Learning English requires practice. Don't let a little fear stop you from getting what you want.

2. Use all of your resources
Using as many different sources, methods and tools as possible, will allow you to learn faster. There are many different ways you can improve your English, so don't limit yourself to only one or two.

3. Surround yourself with English
Take notes in English, put English books around your room, listen to English language radio broadcasts, watch English news, movies and television.  Speak English with your friends whenever you can.

4. Listen to Native Speakers as Much as Possible
One of the reasons is that native speakers have a natural flow to their speech that students of English should try to imitate.  The closer ESL / EFL students can get to this rhythm or flow, the more convincing and comfortable they will become.

5. Watch English Films and Television
This is not only a fun way to learn but it is also very effective.  By watching English films (especially those with English subtitles) you can expand your vocabulary and hear the flow of speech from the actors.  If you listen to the news you can also hear different accents.

6. Listen to English Music
Music can be a very effective method of learning English.  In fact, it is often used as a way of improving comprehension.  The best way to learn though, is to get the lyrics (words) to the songs you are listening to and try to read them as the artist sings.

7. Study As Often As Possible!
Only by studying things like grammar and vocabulary and doing exercises, can you really improve your knowledge of any language.

8. Do Exercises and Take Tests
Many people think that exercises and tests aren't much fun.  However, by completing exercises and taking tests you can really improve your English. One of the best reasons for doing lots of exercises and tests is that they give you a benchmark to compare your future results with.

9. Listen to English
By this, we mean, speak on the phone or listen to radio broadcasts, audiobooks or CDs in English. This is different than watching the television or films because you can’t see the person that is speaking to you.  Many learners of English say that speaking on the phone is one of the most difficult things that they do and the only way to improve is to practice.

10.Finally
Have fun!

Well, those are the information about how we learn English. Next time, i'll continue my writing. ^^ have fun everyone.....^^

Ways to Improve Your English

I'm back again.... I got the busy days recently... So, i can't update last week. But now, i'm ready to post it. Well, today i would like to share the information about the ways to improve our English. ^^. Actually, there are a lot of ways to improve our English but i'll take some of them which are easily to comprehend.

Let's start it!
First, Listen to English music. Even listening to music while doing something else can help a little for things like getting used to the natural rhythm and tone of English speech, although the more time and attention you give to a song the more you will learn from listening to it again in the future.

Second,  Read the lyrics to a song. Although just listening to a song in English can be a good way of really learning the words of the chorus in an easily memorable way, if you want to really get something out of listening to English music you will need to take some time to read the lyrics of the song with a dictionary. Once you have read and understood the lyrics,  if you then listen and read at the same time, this can be a good way of understanding how sounds change in fast, natural, informal speech. ( i have tried the way, it works everyone. You can start from your favourite song ^^)

Third, Sing karaoke in English. The next stage after understanding and memorising a song is obviously to sing it. Although some words have their pronunciation changed completely to fit in with a song, most of the words have the same sounds and stressed syllables as in normal speech. Remembering which words rhyme at the end of each line can also be a good way of starting to learn English pronunciation.

Fourth,  Only search in English. Switching your search engine to the English language version of msn, yahoo, Google etc. can not only be a good way of practising fast reading for specific information in English, but could also give you a wider choice of sites to choose from and give you an idea of what foreigners are writing about your country and area.

Fifth, Watch English language films with English subtitles. For people who can't understand a film without subtitles but find themselves not listening at all when reading subtitles in their own language, this should be the way of watching a film that you should aim for. If it is too difficult to watch the whole film this way, try watching the (usually important) first 10 or 15 minutes of the film with subtitles in your own language, switch to English subtitles after that, and only switch back to subtitles in your own language if you get totally lost following the story of the film.

Ok,, that's all the ways that i can share to you today. Hopefully, it will helps us in learning English. ^^
